Trulli Baci Fondentissimo Review – Energya

Do you love dark chocolate? Do you love hazelnuts? Baci Perugina introduced 70% chocolate truffles called Fondentissimo. Trulli Baci kindly sent me a box of Fondentissimo chocolates to review.

Fondentissimo Baci

I received a box of Fondentissimo 70% Dark Chocolate Baci from Trulli Baci, a company based in the UK. If you are unfamiliar with Baci Perugina, they are these lovely chocolate and hazelnut truffles from the Italian town of Perugia, famous all over Italy. When I lived in Italy I ate quite a few Baci Perugina, but here in London you only tend to find them in some supermarkets, Italian delis and cafes.

The Fondentissimo Baci are covered in 70% Dark Chocolate and they are filled with a chopped hazelnuts and cocoa centre. They are topped with a whole hazelnut, also covered in dark chocolate.

MaxiBaci with Raspberry’s

  • 4x Baci Perugina
  • 1 portion (284g) of brownies
  • 2 tablespoon raspberry jam
  • 57g of fine Dark Chocolate
  • 113g Double Cream
  • 1 tablespoon of custard sugar

Heat the cream in a saucepan with the sugar and chocolate, melt to obtain a silky creamy texture and remove from the heat.

Cut the brownie in half and spread the raspberry jam.

Place the two half brownies together and cut in 4 cubes.

Drop the chocolate glaze on top of the 4 biscuits with a spoon to cover all the surface so it creates a shiny chocolate glaze.

Place the Baci chocolates and the raspberries on top and chill for 15 minutes before serving.

Baci Italia

Baci Chocolates by Perugina “Say I love You The Italian Way”

I am a huge chocolate fan so enjoyed trying these Italian chocolates. Baci is a dark chocolate filled with whole and chopped hazelnuts. In Italian Baci means kisses and a kiss if the heart of every love story. Making Baci the perfect gift for saying “I love you the Italian way”

Baci Perugina - Trulli Baci

Baci Perugina was created in 1922 in Perugia, a medieval city in the heart of Italy. It all began when a young chocolate maker created a special bonbon for his loved one. It was as exquisite and sweet as a kiss, a bacio, in Italian. This romantic Italian story is the origin of Baci Perugina, icon of quality and symbol of excellence and passion.

I adore the packaging with the dark blue sky filled with stars. Each chocolate is wrapped in silver foil with dark blue stars. Inside each chocolate there is a cute love note which is such a great addition. Here are some of the notes I got:

“Love me for the sake of loving always and forever.”

“Grow old along with me; the best is yet to be.”

Baci Perugina – Italian Chocolates With A Kiss (The Cappuccino Diaries)

I adore chocolate. I mean, who doesn’t, right? That mouth-watering smell, delicious smooth taste, you really can’t beat a relaxing evening of drinking your favourite wine and tucking into a lovely box of chocolates. Heaven.

So when the lovely people at Trulli Baci sent me one of their delicious boxes of chocolates to try, I couldn’t wait to pour a glass of my favourite rosé and dive head first into their ever so tempting box of delights.

Baci Perugina are an Italian chocolate company with a romantic and passionate history beginning in 1922 in the medieval city of Perugia. A young chocolatier created a special bonbon for his beloved and wrapped it in a love note. There are three different chocolate varieties to try, dark, milk and white and each flavour is wrapped in different sparkly coloured packaging.

I was sent a box of the dark chocolates and straight away my eye was drawn to the navy blue and silver design, which oozed pure luxury. Romance and love also played their part with the design, with a loving couple on the front accompanied with the tag line ‘Say I Love You the Italian way’ and the word Bacio means kiss in Italian. If you didn’t feel romantic before, this box will definitely get you in the mood for a bit of romance.

Baci Valentine's

The Valentine’s love story that inspired Baci Perugina chocolate

It can be tricky to find that perfect gift for the person you love on Valentine’s Day. But don’t worry, this struggle is nothing new. Back in 1922 it was this same search for a romantic gift that proved to be the inspiration for a young Italian chocolatier called Luisa Spagnoli.

As February 14th approached, she set about using her confectionery skills to create something extra special for her sweetheart, Giovanni Buitoni. The result was a sumptuous chocolate and hazelnut delicacy – inside the wrapper she tucked a love note.

And, almost 100 years later, this simple expression of love, is now known to the world as Baci (Italian for kisses) chocolate. Over time, it has become synonymous with Valentine’s Day and any kind of special occasion which involves the giving of gifts.

Baci is still made in the very same Italian hilltop town of Perugia, the place where Luisa and Giovanni first started selling their creations from a small chocolate shop. And each bite-sized choc still comes with a special love note hidden inside each wrapper.

Love Letters

The messages contained have been collected from around the globe – from different cultures, authors, playwrights and philosophers – but they all share the same inspirational message about the power of love.

Here’s just a taste of the kind of romantic notes you find when unravelling the iconic silver and blue foil wrapper of a Baci:

“Passion dazzles lovers. Love unites them forever.”

“Lovers can live on kisses and water.”

English proverb

“Grow old along with me; the best is yet to be.”

G. Sand

The romantic messages are the perfect complement for the Baci itself, with smooth dark chocolate encasing an inner chamber of gianduia; a delicious milk chocolate, whipped and blended with hazelnut pieces.

And giving the Baci it’s iconic shape is a whole hazelnut which sits on top of this bite-sized chocolate temple. Together, it creates a remarkable blend of taste,  texture and romantic philosophy.

So if you’re still searching for that something special this Valentine’s Day, why not become a part of this enduring love story. Trulli Baci is a family run business created and run by young entrepreneur Alex Meazzini; it has grown to become the UK’s number one online supplier of this chocolate delicacy.

The growing joy of Baci at Christmas

‘If you build it, they will come’ was a memorable quote from the Kevin Costner movie Field of Dreams and referred to creating a baseball field on his farm. Great line – and, with just a little adaptation, could refer to the stunning new Baci Perugina Christmas ad.

‘If you plant it, it will grow’ would be a fine descriptor for the story it tells of a little girl who dearly wants to spread the love felt during the holiday season. Planting a single Baci in the snow of her front garden, she waits longingly, perhaps in vain, for anything to happen. But faith prevails and she awakes from her snooze by the window.

Outside, night has fallen, but magically, a stunning and gloriously lighted Baci tree has sprung forth to offer the finest chocolate joy to everyone she wishes to share it with.

Sentimental, we know, but this is a charmingly crafted reminder of how Christmas is about loved ones and sharing. You can spend 45 seconds judging for yourself here.

advert-imageWe promise that tiny lump in your throat won’t prevent your enjoyment of our gorgeous chocolate wonders!

Christmas should surely be Trulli Baci!

The gentle rustling of the instantly recognisable blue and silver foil would be a great sound to hear on Christmas morning – or right throughout the holiday season. Inside, you’ll find a different message of love printed on each one. Then, take the chance to bite into the sumptuous dark chocolate shell, topped with a single hazelnut and through into a sublime combination of milk chocolate and hazelnut pieces.

These make a great and thoughtful gift and are terrific for sharing with visiting friends and family. Of course, it’s also best to buy some just to squirrel away (well they do contain nuts) for yourself when peace eventually descends again after hectic days.

When a little girl’s dream comes true
Sitting longingly by the window – and didn’t we all at Christmas hoping this would make the great day arrive early – the little girl knows how much just a touch of faith and love can add to life. Everyone here at Trulli Baci hopes your holiday season is everything you would wish it to be. Season’s greetings!

Italian Delight to Trulli Baci: A change in name, but not in approach

Your name is no doubt important to you. It tells people who you are, it has a meaning and it has a purpose: to ensure that you’re recognised and remembered.

Our name is important to us too – for the exact same reasons – and that’s why we’ve moved away from our old name (Italian Delight) and now call ourselves Trulli Baci.

When we first started out in 2010, Italian Delight was perfect: our focus was on offering delightful quality Italian food of all sorts to customers across the UK. Over the years, though, our focus has changed. We’ve evolved throughout the years and now find ourselves purveyors of Baci chocolate: a timeless and perennially popular Italian treat. For that reason, it was time for a change.

We’re now specialist sellers of Perugina’s Baci chocolates – and aim to be the UK’s no.1 for Baci chocolate, and perhaps, down the line, we’ll expand to other European countries too. We wanted to make it clear to you, our customers, that Baci are our speciality, and to make it easy to see at a glance exactly what we’re all about.

Why “Trulli”? Well, the inspiration comes from our family holidays to Puglia – and in particular, visits to the town of Alberobello. Here, you’ll find traditional Apulian dry stone huts with conical roofs known as Trulli, dating back to the prehistoric times.

For us, the Trulli Baci name has three roles. Firstly, it relates back to Italy and years of tradition, and secondly, it highlights that Baci chocolates are our complete and sole focus.

Last but not least, it’s a play on the word “truly”, in its definition as “to the fullest degree; genuinely or properly”. That truly is how we want to introduce Baci, to run our business and to serve our customers.

Our founder Alex says:

“I believe there is an enormous amount of potential with Trulli Baci and I want to reassure our customers that we have never been more committed to providing an excellent online service. We can’t wait to keep growing our Baci range for our loyal UK customers in the years to come.”

Our name may have changed, but we’re still the same people: dedicated to providing only the best products, and committed to excellent customer service. That “Trulli” is something that will never change.

Do novelty chocolate flavours live up to the hype?

In the last few years we have seen a global clash of chocolate giants who continue to jockey for the position of being the most wonderful and wacky chocolate producer out there. Recently, New Zeland’s most  famous chocolate producers Whittaker’s seems to be leading the pack with its newly launched and much hyped almond & cranberry chocolate, followed by hundreds and thousands and who can’t resist a bit of Jelly chocolate every now and then.

With this latest wacky flavour to hit the global shelves, we also remember some of the other weird and wonderful recipes that have received mixed reviews over recent years. The most famous of these flavours has to be the Cadburys, Vegemite combination. This remains a controversial chocolate and after being established on the shelve for many years it continues to have mixed reviews from the Australian public.

Here at Trulli Baci, we believe that great chocolate comes from the pure and simple recipes which have been hand crafted over several generations. Baci chocolate remains the king of simplicity as its unique flavour means it remains Italy’s number one chocolate. Why not try a box of Baci chocolate today.
